Our parish was founded by Italian Immigrants. The history of struggling to start over in a new country is very much a part of our founding story. As such we want to help newcomers to easy the burden of starting over.
In the past we have formed a partnership with four Winnipeg parishes — Holy Rosary Parish, St. Paul’s High School, St. Paul’s College and St. Gianna Parish — to sponsor registered refugee families and help them integrate into our community. Together we’ve raised funds and sponsored two refugee family. The availability of the families is incumbent on the Federal Government and we are bound by their regulations and criteria.
Financial contributions, personal involvement, and donations of furniture and household goods has allowed the committee to continue their work assisting those seeking refuge and to settle in Canada. Thank you to our parishioners who help make this ministry possible.
In 2022 Holy Rosary begins preparation to celebrate our 100 year anniversary as a Parish community in October of 2023. As part of that celebration, our parish will sponsor a registered refugee family from the current war torn Ukraine. Our committee is currently in the process of organizing and preparing for the family’s needs.
At present all 2nd collections from our Sunday Mass are set aside to help cover the cost once the family arrives. Anyone wishing to contribute can make a donation by clearly indicated Ukraine family. Donation receipt are issued to those that provide their name and address with the donation.
Our committee meets with lawyers, government agencies and community groups to ensure we follow proper procedures and meet the needs of the family upon their arrival.
Our committee is bound by government regulation. We are provided with family information from refugees that are registered. We do not have the ability to sponsor families or individuals who are not registered and approved by the government.
